About Japanese Kuki Hojicha

To create this flavoursome Japanese Kuki Hojicha green tea, stems from naturally farmed Tencha leaves in Shizuoka and Kagoshima are roasted over charcoal. When fully infused, this tea is distinctively nutty and sweet and has a low caffeine level, making it an ideal choice for those who prefer little to no caffeine after midday.  An expressive and robust flavour, it pairs well with both savoury and sweet dishes.

About Tencha

The Tencha leaves, which form the basis for our Kuki Hojicha, are grown in the renowned tea-growing regions of Shizuoka and Kagoshima under optimal climatic conditions. The plants thrive in the shade, which intensifies their delicate aromas. Sustainable growing methods and traditional craftsmanship ensure the highest quality of tea leaves and stems.

Cultivation

During the production of Matcha, the Tencha leaves have their veins and stems removed. Rather than discarding the stems of these high quality leaves, an innovative way to slowly roast them and make Kuki Hojicha was developed, resulting today in one of the country’s most loved hot beverages.

Effects

The roasting of the Kuki Hojicha not only imparts its nutty and sweet notes but also reduces the caffeine content, making it soothing and gentle on the stomach. The contained antioxidants support the immune system and promote general health.

How to enjoy

Enjoy our Kuki Hojicha pure, to fully savour the full-bodied aromas. This tea pairs excellently with light desserts such as almond pastries or fruit salads and provides a delightful contrast to savoury dishes like grilled vegetables or sushi. It also makes an excellent iced tea and can be blended with a touch of strawberry syrup for sweetness.
