Organic Japanese Gyokuro
About Organic Japanese Gyokuro
This complex Organic Gyokuro green tea is one of the finest green tea specialties from Japan. The tea is full-bodied with a rich, savoury flavour. It stands out with its deep green colour and rich umami taste, delighting both tea enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
About Gyokuro
Gyokuro, which means "jade dew” in Japanese, is among the most renowned and high-quality Japanese teas in the world. Unlike other green teas, Gyokuro is shaded for about three weeks before harvest, enhancing its unique flavour and deep green colour. This shading method reduces bitterness and increases the content of theanine and chlorophyll, giving the tea its characteristic sweetness and smooth character.
Cultivation
Originating from the Uji region in Japan, Gyokuro is now one of the most coveted teas globally. The plants are covered with nets (kabuse) or bamboo, reed, or rice straw mats (Hon-Gyokuro) as they sprout at the end of April. Careful cultivation and handpicking ensure that only the youngest, tenderest leaves from the first spring harvest are used for this premium tea.
Effects
Gyokuro tea is particularly beneficial for the cardiovascular system and promotes lung and bronchial health. Additionally, it has activating and harmonising effects on the enteric nervous system, supporting digestive motor function and peristalsis.
How to enjoy
The full, highly aromatic flavour of Gyokuro is best enjoyed at low water temperatures, around 60°C. Gyokuro can be steeped multiple times, with each infusion revealing new layers of flavour. Serve this exquisite tea pure, without sugar or milk, to fully appreciate its delicate nuances. It pairs beautifully with light Japanese dishes such as sushi or sashimi and is perfect for special moments of relaxation.
